Tagle should pray for world peace and corruption-free Philippines

It seems like the Catholic Church hierarchy headed by Manila Archbishop Antonio Cardinal Tagle is having a field day criticizing the PDAF scam controversy involving public servants in government.

It looks like they have found a vehicle to ride on and be one with the voice of the many Filipinos who has shown their outrage in different ways for having been duped by no less than some of the country’s lawmakers in both Houses of Congress.

While I don’t have anything against the ranking members of the church expressing their disgust over the scam, as Filipino citizens, as priest, however, I vehemently protest and despise them for doing so, as if all is fine and dandy in their own ranks.

We all know that as there is corruption in the political community, so is there corruption and moral decay in the Catholic religious community here and abroad.

So there is no reason why we should continue letting ‘the pot call the kettle black.’

What is more promising, reassuring and inspirational to the public is, like Pope Francis, Tagle should gather the faithful and call upon other religious groups to join him and his flock in praying for world peace during these uncertain times, to include success in government’s effort for peace in Mindanao and for corruption-free Philippines that encompasses both the state and church.

Pope Francis has not only fasted for peace, but has called upon people to be with him for a prayer at St. Peter’s square that there will be peace in the Middle East, specifically in Syria.

“I invite you to continue to pray so that the violence and devastation in Syria may cease immediately and that a renewed effort be undertaken to achieve a just solution to this fratricidal conflict,” he said.

Cardinal Tagle should learn from Pope Francis the way the latter characterizes efficacy through simplicity, drive and determination without the trimmings of being able to grandstand just to bring home a point.

Be more spiritual and do away with political connotations.
