Sitio Kawatan

Mayor Fernandez and his cross

It is bad enough that Sitio Mananga 2 in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, Cebu is always referred to as Sitio Kawatan, a derogatory term literally translated as Site of Thieves, but it is even worse that city Mayor Socrates Fernandez is doing nothing, allowing the place to continue living up to its name.

How many more PO1 William Mangubats have to be killed before Mayor Fernandez orders an all-out war against criminal elements making the area under the Mananga bridge their base of atrocious operation and their refuge?

Do the public have to wait that more Anne Gellie Pagayaman have to be robbed by these ‘scum of the earth,’ leaving the poor, innocent victims traumatized before Mayor Fernandez restores order in the area making it safe for Talisay residents and even for those passing through?

Mayor Soc Fernandez continues evangelizing, regularly, on TV his religious beliefs, but sad to say that the public has still to hear from him plans of stopping, nay abating, criminality in Talisay.

It can only go worst before it gets any better if the good mayor will not show any resolve, whether in words or deeds, to solve the problem that is giving Talisay City a bad reputation.

But then again, are we not asking too much from Mayor Fernandez to implement forcefully peace and order in Talisay, when he could not even discipline his own adopted son – the cross he carries and the scourge of the city?
