More than a statement perhaps the title should end in question mark.
Re-phrasing it perhaps would be more appropriate: Is politics creating a rupture in the Quiboloy-Duterte friendship?
Thirty years of friendship is a long time and the fate of these two friends has been providential as they are mind-boggling, both coming from humble beginnings.
But while Pastor Apollo Quiboloy has turned into a self-adulating bigot and narcissist who has proclaimed himself the ‘Appointed Son of God’, after establishing the religious sect Kingdom Of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name, Inc., amassing wealth from credulous followers numbering now to 6 million globally and whose location in Davao City’s mountainous terrain is now called “The Garden of Eden Restored” , president-elect Rodrigo Duterte, on the other hand, has remained ordinary and unpretentious as the day he started his public service as truly a servant-leader.
Their mutually beneficial relationship has been an election issue on the strength of their “you scratch my back and I will scratch yours” agenda, but that is neither here nor there now. What are friends for anyway?
No doubt Quiboloy was able to deliver his sect’s votes for Duterte and that is no drop in the bucket, mind you.
Because of the enormous contribution and help Quiboloy has invested on Duterte’s run for the presidency, it is only proper that the latter would consult him when choosing people to comprise his Cabinet if he wins, or at least that’s how it should be, Quiboloy thought.
Though Quiboloy emphasized that he just wanted to be Duterte’s spiritual adviser still he was expecting to play the role of king maker.
Alas, the turn of event didn’t go Quiboloy’s way as various political stakeholders seem to put a wall around the new president-elect making him unavailable and even unreachable to close friends, like Quiboloy.
Thus the reports that Quiboloy is utterly disappointed with Duterte and speculations arising that a breach in their friendship has happened.
But then again, if Quiboloy is contented to be just the spiritual adviser of Duterte, why is he feeling anxious and dismay over the political strategic moves the Duterte camp are making?
Indeed, Quiboloy’s attitude can make some people raise their eyebrows!
