On January 11, 2016 I wrote and asked whether or not the reinvestigation of the Mamasapano carnage, as strongly suggested by Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, was boon or bane for the country (https://quierosaber.wordpress.com/2016/01/11/reopening-of-the-mamasapano-massacre-inquiry-a-boon-or-bane/).
Now it can be told that it was nothing but a mad dog attack at President Benigno Aquino (PNoy) personally, from which Enrile tried to gain credibility and self-satisfaction hoping that it would change the perception of people about his corrupt ways and/or marred reputation over his involvement in the scandalous PDAF (pork barrel) scam.
Enrile cited new evidences that he was able to dig up which he promised would exposed PNoy’s culpability behind the ill-fated police operation that claimed the lives of more than 60 people, including 44 SAF commandos.
Apparently Enrile’s bombshell was a dud and what came out as a success instead was his outrageous grandstanding that only showed his blatant spitefulness and hatred at PNoy.
Since Enrile’s expose was a bummer, which expressed nothing new that can even be called significant, Senator Grace Poe, chairman of the Senate committee on public order, who acceded to Enrile’s request to have the deadly Mamasapano incident reopened for investigation, decided and deemed it right that the report submitted by her committee stays as is.
“We tried and gave Senator Juan Ponce Enrile a chance to be enlightened as to what happened on January 25, 2015. I think we gave him enough time to ask questions. I was also able to ask but I think nothing will change in the committee report at this point”, Poe said.
Suffice to say that the reopening of the Mamasapano massacre inquiry was bane for the country, but more so for the family of the victims who had to suffer once more the pain, the anguish and the continued uncertainty of the future because of Enrile’s folly.
The buck stops at PNoy’s table.
Everybody knew it from the investigations conducted and various reports submitted.
That is all there is to it.
