It has been reported that Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is open to becoming Vice President Jejomar Binay’s running mate when Binay runs for president in 2016.
With Binay coveting the country’s presidential seat, more so now than ever, to silence those he perceive is persecuting him and his family, and to further consolidate the Binay political dynasty, he will make a pact even with the devil to ensure that he gets elected.
If running Makati was paradise for Binay, wait until he gets to be the leader of the country!
The same thing goes with Marcos and his unbridled ambition to be near the seat of power soon enough.
“I would consider anything. They call politics the art of the possible. And so you never know. You have seen unlikely alliances…” the senator said in a television interview.
But as foxy a politician as Binay is, I don’t think he will succumb to the temptation of choosing Marcos. The latter may have the charisma, but the name is a heavy yoke for Binay to be able to fly high with out the risk of losing altitude and eventually crashing.
It is bad enough that Binay is facing charges for corrupt practices, though even if he denies it, yet he has not tried to fully and convincingly extricate himself from the hole he is in at the moment.
It could be even worse, if partnering with Marcos, he will get more flak for his corrupt practices and be likened to his ally’s despot father.
Ambitious as Marcos is, too, there is no doubt he will consider anything – especially for the vice presidential slate that is being offered by no less than the leading presidential contender in poll surveys.
Marcos believes this is the easier and faster way to get to Malacañang Palace when you are just a heart-beat away from the seat of power.
Surely Marcos will love this scenario for when this time comes, the hidden wealth will be unearthed and all those painstakingly retrieved high priced gems, paintings, etc., that are being kept in vaults will be opened for them to own again.
Not only that. Marcos father, the despot, will eventually get the family’s wish to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani cemetery.
Thus, whichever way one looks at it, both Binay and Marcos have their own hidden agenda for wanting to be the leader of the country, which does not augur well for the good of the country and the Filipino people.
Woe to us all if fate decrees that the Binay-Marcos tandem materializes and gets elected.
Considering their political genes, either one is bane for the country.
