One would think that the infamous Janet Lim Napoles would be sulking and feeling sorry for conniving with politicians and double-crossing the Filipino people, especially the poor amongst us, in the multibillion-peso pork barrel scam that she allegedly masterminded.
But, lo and behold, her appearance and demeanor shows otherwise!
If not for the presence of uniformed military personnel escorting her when she attended her bail hearing before the anti-graft court, one would think that she was walking freely inside a mall, smiling at acquaintances, with the people surrounding her as her factotums.
It was contemptible enough that she was arrogantly smiling, but what made the sight of her even more scandalous and disgraceful is her wearing a Pope Francis shirt, which are being prepared and sold to the public mainly as souvenirs of the pontiff’s visit to the Philippines.
It took gall and utter rudeness for her to don the shirt with the words ‘Mercy and Compassion’ printed on it.
For most Filipinos wearing it in greeting Francis, and for the duration of his stay in the country, it is, indeed, appropriate attire and a fitting tribute for the pope’s concern for the poor and the marginalized in our society.
For Napoles, however, wearing it is not only farcical, but indecent.
