Sneaky sea lion steals fish from fisherman

I am sharing with you this video that I found interesting, funny and amazing as how a creature like a sea lion can outsmart a person.

While both fishermen were having themselves proudly photographed with their individual prize catch, a sea lion stealthily sneaked out from the boat and in one swift move snags the large freshly caught Mahi-mahi from one of them, and then disappears under the water.

Note the pelican at the background watching the sly move of the sea lion.

Other names given to this white-meat fish are dolphin fish, dorado (Spanish for its gilded skin, especially when seen in water under a bright light) and pandawan in the local dialect.

This is a deep sea fish that gets caught sometimes together with a school of tuna under a floating log or a fish aggregating device during purse seining.

Any which way it is cooked, the fish comes out delicious.

Yvan Mucharrz, an executive chef at Capella Pedregal in Cabo San Lucas, recently took a fishing trip as part of Travel Channel’s Chef on the Water series and he didn’t come home empty handed. Mucharrz caught a nice sized mahi-mahi.

Unfortunately for the chef his large catch never made its way onto shore. As he was displaying his big catch for the cameras a Sea Lion snuck over the side of the boat and stole the nice sized meal.

Show host Mike “The Griz” Ritz looks on and laughs at the situation, thankfully chef Mucharrz also saw the humor in the sea lions theft.

The video was uploaded to YouTube on October 9 and has racked up nearly 450,000 views to date.

A very funny video.I’m glad the guy who had his fish stolen thought it was funny also.On a side note…..about 2 months ago,I shared an article about the pitbull puppy that was found in Quincy,Massachusetts who had been tortured so badly that she had to be put to sleep.Update…..the monster has been caught. It was great work on the part of the police department that led to his capture.

He looks like a monster, alright. Hope there was some water boarding done if only to remind him that that should not be done to animals, the creep.

Let me know what you think
