The way whistleblower Benhur Luy has been spilling the beans at the Senate Blue Ribbon committee investigating on the scandalous Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), or more popularly known as pork barrel, gives the impression that, somehow, former Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Renato Corona is having the last laugh.
When the Senate gloated about their success in nailing and ousting Corona as head of the judiciary branch of government on the basis of Article II of the impeachment complaint accusing him of inaccurately declaring his assets, including peso and dollar deposits and real estate properties, most of the senators could not contain their elation, noting that the top magistrate no longer deserves his post.
But, more than anything else, they pat each others back for each of their hours of grand standing, during the whole of the 43-trial days, in grilling, shaming and in trying to ferret out the truth from the beleaguered Corona in the witness stand have paid off.
Yes, there was jubilation among the people that no less than the head of the SC was convicted of corruption by the members of the Senate convened as an impeachment court.
It may have been a glorious and historic day for the Senate as a body then, but, sadly, not anymore.
The PDAF scam is giving the disgraced Corona enough reason to have the last laugh.
You see, what is unfolding now in front of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee investigating the pork barrel scam is very revealing. It plainly exposes the negative aspects of some of the senators we have – their being hypocrites, deceitful, insincere, selfish and corrupt.
You would think that when the senators implicated in the pork barrel scam, some of whom are referred to as Tanda, Pogi and Sexy, were interrogating Corona, that they were simon-pure, sanctimonious and holier-than-thou lawmakers and public servants.
They were so good at pretending to be politically correct, morally upright and spiritually the voice of conscience.
They were so ingenious in hiding their wolfish nature in sheep’s clothing.
We were all gyp by these scoundrels.
It was bad enough for Corona to amassed wealth dealing surreptitiously with moneyed people, but what can be more worst than, lawmakers calling themselves public servants, who, for a long, long time and in the guise of helping the plight of the poor Filipinos through legitimate non-government organizations (NGOs) with their PDAF, which actually is taxpayer’s money, allowed themselves to be used by the wicked Janet Lim-Napoles, tagged as the mastermind of this outrageous and mind boggling caper, in funneling their huge yearly pork barrel through bogus entities allegedly in exchange for a 50 percent kickback.
Holy shit! Shades of a mafia-like organization!
It took a mother of all scams to be exposed and disclosed for the Filipino people to know, finally, how gullible, naïve, stupid and ‘idol-oriented’ we have all been in electing politicians to represent us in the upper and lower Houses of congress who have helped only widen the gap between the rich and the poor and who are busy creating dynasties of their own, while the country is left in limbo.
