I understand Buhay party-list Rep. Jose “Lito” Atienza’s dogged loyalty and steady support for boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao all these years, and acknowledging the latter as a skillful and great fighter is the truth, but calling him now “a genius” in matters other than boxing is a daft description of him.
No one doubts his accomplishments in boxing and the honor he has brought to this country, but not because he has entered the political ring and won a congressional seat and has established himself as a politician to reckon with, with ambitions to vie for the presidency in the future, shall he be called a genius.
If Pacquiao’s billions will qualify him to be “a genius”, will that also translate to his having the ability and competency to be the nation’s president?
“Serving in a higher elective post rests on the will of God and the call of the Filipino people,” Pacquiao said.
This is, as always, the most hackneyed explanation given by one who thinks he is speaking to the dumb, while the ignorant is cheering him.
I am not saying Pacquiao cannot become president, because anybody who has the amount of money that Pacquiao has accumulated can be somebody in this country – including being the president.
Have you heard of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name, Inc.? With his scandalous wealth he is now claiming to be the ‘Appointed Son of God’ and, lately, “the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Quiboloy.”
It’s even doubly crazy when you have traditional politicians like Atienza who is always seen beside Pacquiao, for some reason, and has the propensity of egging on the latter and rooting for his demented ambitions.
“If that is what’s coming to his mind, let’s not belittle it because this guy did great things for the country. And it may not be repeated by anyone in many years,” Atienza said.
A flatterer par excellence is what Atienza is to Pacquiao.
Not because he did great things in boxing and country will he be outright the best bet for the presidency.
“So let’s leave him to his dream to good things for us. Anyway, he’s a very intelligent man. In fact, maybe too intelligent,” he added.
Look who is going bananas over Pacquiao and is dreaming himself!
