The whole world knows how useful and advantageous social networking sites have been in toppling dictatorial regimes.
The whole world, likewise, knows how distance between nations have been ‘shrunk’ by social media, as well, in that events anywhere are easily known by anybody.
This could never be more emphasized than how social networking contributed to the awareness of all peoples, both here and abroad, when typhoon Sendong ravaged Iligan and Cagayan de Oro cities, and most recently, the destruction that the 6.9 magnitude earthquake wrought upon the Visayan island of Negros.
While these calamities elicited condolences and sympathies, as well as kind gestures of monetary help, from all over the world, in our midst, however, is a fellow Filipino, a contemptible one at that, or an asshole, if you may, who, while our brothers and sisters in quake and landslide-hit areas of Guihulngan and La Libertad towns in Negros Oriental were suffering from fear, losses of lives and properties and the scarcity of food supply and potable drinking water, and panicking for the possible occurrence of a tsunami, had the temerity and imbecility to wish the victims ill will by posting comments on Yahoo! Philippine’s news story, saying, “Let us all pray……. Na matuloy ang tsunami para maraming bisaya ang mamatay, para mabawasan ang mga baduy sa pilipinas (I hope the tsunami pushes through so people from Visayas will die..so that the number of ‘low-class’ members of society will be reduced.)”
The opprobrious and repugnant idiot referred to here is one by the name Ahcee Flores, who, since then, has earned a mouthful of hated comments from many netizens posted on Facebook and Twitter.
Who is Ahcee Flores? No doubt it is an alias, and many think that the individual is a woman scorned, as in ‘Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.’
But, instead of unleashing her wrath against one person only from the Visayas, who, perhaps, has did her wrong, she clumsily and unpleasantly let loose a malediction that encompassed all Visayan people, to include the poor, hapless earthquake victims.
It even included me and my family. How about that!
Is there a need to unmask and identify the real Ahcee Flores? Absolutely!
She could not be hanged by the balls, obviously, but, any which way, she has to be taught a lesson.
What she uttered was simply beyond the bounds of propriety in a civilized society and she is answerable for it. It is more, especially, that her vituperation was made in an inopportune time when the afflicted were agonizing.
