From the death of Libya’s tyrant Gaddafi to the continuing uprisings in Yemen and Syria, from the European financial rescue plan to the Occupy Wall Street movement in the US, from Thailand’s flood waters to Turkey’s killer earthquake – all are news and events that have been impacting the world in a way that makes you wonder what turmoil will happen next – when and where.
It is for this reason that I am changing topic and looking at the sunny side of things that could give folks hope for a brighter and healthier future.
Or I may choose to write something that is weird or funny just so people may find something intriguing or laughable.
This time, however, I would like to share an encouraging study with those, who, like me, are past their prime, and, who, sooner or later will be having problems with their prostate.
This is about a research study headed by Dr. William Aronson of the University of California at Los Angeles, who has found out that a low-fat diet with fish oil supplement can slow down the growth of prostate cancer.
They made the discovery when, after just four to six weeks on the diet, the prostate tissue samples taken from men with the disease showed a reduction of cancer cell growth.
The same effect, however, has not been seen in men who remained on a Western diet with no fish oil supplement.
In a statement published in the journal Cancer Prevention Research, Dr. Aronson said: “The finding that the low-fat, fish oil diet reduced the number of rapidly dividing cells in the prostate cancer tissue is important because the rate at which the cells are dividing can be predictive of future cancer progression. The lower the rate of proliferation, the lesser the chances that the cancer will spread outside the prostate, where it is much harder to treat.”
To make this study more conclusive, Dr. Aronson is now planning a larger study of 100 men with prostate cancers who were not being actively treated but receiving regular biopsies and check-ups.
It has been reported that each year around 36,000 men in the UK are diagnosed with prostate cancer and 10,000 die from the disease.

Interesting! I started taking fish oil to see if I could help out an ankle problem that has been bothering me. It didn’t help the ankle, but I feel like it helped my mood a bit. I liked the mood change enough to stay on the fish oil. Strange stuff that fish oil is
Been taking fish oil because of its more renown benefit of increasing the level of your good cholesterol. But knowing what it does now to my prostate, I’ll just keep on taking it. This is what happens when scientists does experiments on certain drugs. Then, bingo! It’s a cure for something else. Maybe in your case you are too young to have arthritis (they say its a cure for arthritis too) in your ankle and a good physical therapist could probably make it better, but without you knowing it your mood change for the better instead! Strange stuff, indeed.
